Our company began operations in 1974 as a mining company in the Northern Frontier of Kenya mining Yellow and Blue Sapphires in a plca called Garba Tulla(See our Yellow Sapphire Mine by watching our Company Timeline) so we have had a great deal of experience with these beautiful gemstones. Today, although we no longer own this mine, we do have first option of selecting out the very best rough from its production and cutting for our collection. Pieces from this mine are rare nowadays as the mine is located in a very insecure part of the country, near the Somalia border, and is hence mined sporadically by brave adventurers.

Untreated vs Treated Sapphire
The vast majority of Sapphire and Fancy Sapphire is treated these days. In the Far East all sorts of tricks are employed to improve, enhance or even completely change the color of a gemstone. A recent treatment known as beryllium treatment has allowed low grade yellow sapphire in Sri Lanka to be transformed into top color pinks. Of course these treatments can now be detected but many consumers have been duped into paying high prices for what are really low grade goods.
The wonderful thing about the Kenyan yellow sapphires is that they are entirely natural and untreated. they have a beautiful sharp yellow color and are naturally clean stones. Once cut, they can resemble canary diamonds. Being untreated they also command a premium in the market.
